The
district is divided into three health sub districts of Bukooli South, Bukooli Central
and Bukooli North served by Buyinja Health Centre (HC) IV, Nankoma HC IV and
Bugiri District hospital respectively.
- There are in total 56 health units
- 1 referral hospital.
- 2 Health Centre IVs.
- 9 Heath Centre IIIs and 43 Health Centre
IIs.
- The district is also served by 12 health
units run by Non Government Organisations.
- Each centre serves up to 10,000 people with
in 5km radius of its vicinity.
The
district health department is bogged down by the need for more personnel and consequent adequate facilitation
for them and better infrastructure. The
challenge still stands to expand and consolidate health services, equip the
health units with drugs equipment and solar power.
The
health department has worked towards:
- - Increasing immunisation activity
- - Commissioned Buyinja Health Centre
- - Completed the construction of Nankoma HC to
spread out the health services.
Organisations
like UNICEF, Uganda Programme for Human Holistic Development (UPHOLD), The Aids
Support Organisation, GOAL, Church of God, Ministry of Health (MoH)/WHO, CDC/Centre
for Disease Control have helped in improving the health services in the
district.
